WELCOME
Thank you for visiting the joint BACP and UKCP website, for the 'Towards the Statutory Regulation of Counselling and Psychotherapy' project. This work has been funded by the Department of Health.
We hope that you will take the opportunity to contribute to this project by completing the online questionnaire in relation to your counselling and psychotherapy practice and training.
Please note: to enable you to answer question 5 of the questionnaire you will need to download this document Appendix 1
We are also distributing a paper copy of this questionnaire to a selected sample of 10,000 counsellors or psychotherapists. If you have received a postal version then please use this online version as an alternative. We ask that you only complete this questionnaire once to ensure that the outcome is not skewed because of the over-representation of one particular group. It will not be possible to identify any individual from the responses given.
The results provided will be used to inform a report to the Department of Health. It is therefore important that we get a response from as many counsellors and psychotherapists as possible. The information provided may be used to inform future decisions regarding the proposed statutory regulation of the professions.
You will also find a copy of an open letter which has been provided for our use to further explain the remit of this work. The two documents can be accessed below by following the link to questionnaire and letter.
The date for completion of our report is 30 June 2005. To allow time for us to compile the report we will only be able to include, in our analysis, questionnaire responses made by 31 May 2005.
Thank you for your time and participation.

It is the purpose of this questionnaire to investigate links between training and professional practice the questionnaire is being made available to a wide range of professionals without regard to the established distinctions between the different professions. In so far as it is possible to achieve a fair representation this is being attempted through sampling members of representative professional organisations and independent practitioners.
The purpose of this questionnaire is to investigate links between the work that psychotherapists, counsellors and associated professionals are carrying out and the training and qualifications that they have achieved. The terms psychotherapist and counsellor are used throughout but it is recognised, explicitly in the first question, that there are other titles in use.
